Skye Holiday Day 3 - Monday 7th June 2010

Woke up on Skye, finally , my plan for the day was go to the Isle of Raasay, but had a morning to fill first , so once more got on my Bike and headed to the mainland, spent an unsatisfactory hour or two trying to decide if I was too tired too cycle too Plockton, or get the train or just hang about Kyle of Lochalsh and finally decided to get back in the car and head up too Sconser for the ferry, got caught in road works on Skye, yes really
Skye Cullins
and missed the one pm ferry oh well there will be another one along soon.

Now the original plan was to leave the car in Edinburgh and cycle round the islands, the later plan was that there is simply no way I could live out a bag that I could carry on my back for a week (where would the wine go), so the car was coming, the final plan was I would go to Skye so I didn't have to pay ferry charges (see day 1 and 2), the penultimate plan was that I would spend
Wee Ferry too Raasay
a night in Raasay with only my two wheels for company, but standing on that quay in Sconser I couldn't get all my stuff in that bag. So the 1pm ferry came and went and I decided that I would take the car on the next ferry. Oh dear two hours to fill might as well drive to Portree and have a nosy . Found Portree almost too touristy for this lovely island, but found the co-op and some hob nobs and started a theme of tea and hob nobs which would last throughout the rest of the trip. Drove back to Sconser and found myself going over the sea once again.

On arrival in Raasay when I saw the hill up to the hostel was glad I'd abandoned that foolish cycling plan, was met by the lovely volunteer wardens, got settled in and went for another cycle , saw some lovely views around the island but boy it was windy. Went back to the hostel had some dinner , then ventured out again avec vin, for a lovely evening at one with the light , sheep and gulls of the island.

Cycle round Raasay

Around eleven at night took the below photos when it should have really been complete darkness and despite the light had one of the best nights sleep I have ever had.
