Skye Museum of Island Life |
This was perhaps my busiest day on Skye and what an incredible day it was. Yet again my original plan for this day was to leave the island and visit neighbouring Lewis but got caught in a traffic jam caused by sheep on the way to Uig, one track roads and sheep , not the best combination ! Decided to double back on myself and visit the Skye Museum of Island life
http://www.skyemuseum.co.uk/, which was well worth the visit, behind the museum was Kilmuir graveyard that is home to the Flora MacDonald monument as I had been singing the Skye Boat song for days would have been rude not to pay her a visit . Undecided what to do next I decided to go for a little drive to try and find the cottage that she died in. I don't think I will ever know for sure if I did but I decided that the abandoned one below was the one:

I decided to complete the Uig loop by returning to Flodigarry via Dunvegan and Portree. Stopped off on the way back to Flodigarry to take some photo's of the old Man of Storr , the Kilt rocks and a had a walk along the shore at Staffin.

Once back at the hostel it was time to have a cuppa and a biscuit and had a chat with my lovely roommate Ruth a Canadian lady having her European tour in her fifties and another fellow hosteler Alan. Encouraged by Ruth's walking tales I decided to have to a go at the Old Man of Storr, which was a thoroughly rewarding walk with some amazing views:

I was so excited after that walk that I was fully energised, that I then decided to give the Quaraing a try, on the drive up there however I realised that I was perhaps try to punch above my weight hillwalking wise and decided to leave my Quaraing virginity intact for now. Another magical day over on the wonderful Isle of Skye
